I decided to choose Ford Motor Company because it is a company that I have always been interested in. I recently leased a Ford Bronco, so I have been paying more attention to the company, its vehicles, and its history. Ford is one of the most well-known automotive companies in the United States and has been producing vehicles for over 100 years. I also like that Ford continues to introduce new technology while still making reliable trucks, SUVs, and cars that people know and trust. Because I already have an interest in the company, I thought it would make this project more enjoyable and easier to research.

What Customers Expect from Ford

When people buy a Ford vehicle, they expect it to be safe, dependable, and worth the money they spend. Customers also expect Ford to continue improving its technology, fuel efficiency, and safety features while keeping prices competitive. Since Ford is such a well-known company, the public expects it to quickly fix any problems or recalls that may happen. Many people are willing to accept small design changes or new technology, but they still expect Ford vehicles to maintain the durability and performance the company is known for.

An Unmet Need in the Market

One group that still has unmet needs is young adults who enjoy traveling, camping, and spending time outdoors but cannot afford expensive luxury adventure vehicles. Many college students and young professionals want a vehicle that helps them enjoy weekend trips without spending thousands of dollars on camping equipment or modifications. They want something practical, affordable, and easy to use while still fitting into their everyday lives.

My Consumer Product Concept

The consumer product I would introduce is the Ford Pet Travel System. This would be a travel accessory kit designed specifically for Ford SUVs like the Bronco, Bronco Sport, Explorer, and Escape. The kit would include a waterproof seat protector, a cargo liner, a foldable pet ramp, portable food and water bowls, a storage bag for leashes and toys, and a built-in leash attachment to help keep pets secure while traveling. All of the pieces would be removable and easy to clean, making them useful for both everyday trips and outdoor adventures.

I selected this product because more people are traveling with their pets than ever before. Many pet owners buy seat covers and other pet accessories from different companies, but they often do not fit well or match the vehicle. A Ford-designed pet travel system would be made specifically for Ford vehicles, giving customers a better fit, improved quality, and a more organized way to travel with their pets.

Research Objectives

The main goal of my research would be to find out if customers would be interested in purchasing the Ford Pet Travel System. I would want to learn which features pet owners think are the most important, how much they would be willing to spend, and whether they would prefer buying the kit when purchasing a new Ford vehicle or later as an accessory. The research would also help determine whether the product solves a problem that many Ford customers experience when traveling with their pets.

Understanding the Target Audience

The target audience for this product would mainly be adults between the ages of 25 and 55 who own dogs and frequently travel with them. Many of these customers enjoy camping, hiking, road trips, visiting parks, or simply bringing their pets along for everyday errands. Since more households own pets today, this audience continues to grow, creating an opportunity for Ford to offer products that meet their lifestyle.

I would also want to learn how these customers currently travel with their pets. Some people use blankets or towels to protect their seats, while others purchase pet seat covers or crates from other companies. I would ask what they like and dislike about the products they already use and what additional features they would like to see. Their feedback could help Ford improve the design of the Pet Travel System before releasing it.

Learning About the Competition

Ford would need to research companies that already sell pet travel accessories, including pet seat covers, travel crates, cargo liners, and vehicle organizers. Many of these products are sold by pet retailers or online marketplaces and are designed to fit many different vehicles instead of one specific model. While they offer useful features, they often do not fit perfectly or match the interior of the vehicle.

I would compare competitor products by looking at their prices, customer reviews, product quality, and features. I would also research how these companies advertise their products, where they sell them, and who they market to. This information would help Ford create a product that stands out by offering better quality, a custom fit, and the convenience of purchasing it directly from Ford.

External Factors

Several outside factors could affect the success of the Ford Pet Travel System. The economy could influence whether customers are willing to spend money on vehicle accessories. Technology may also play a role if customers expect features like easy-clean materials, durable fabrics, or safety attachments for pets. Environmental concerns could encourage Ford to use recycled or sustainable materials in the product. In addition, Ford would need to make sure the product meets any safety guidelines and regulations related to pet transportation and vehicle accessories.

My Research Plan

To gather information, I would use both secondary and primary research. Secondary research would include reading industry reports about pet ownership, reviewing Ford customer information, studying competitor products, and reading customer reviews to better understand what people currently like and dislike about pet travel accessories. This research would provide a good understanding of the market before creating the final product.

For primary research, I would create an online survey for current Ford owners who have pets. The survey would ask how often they travel with their pets, what products they currently use, what problems they experience, and how much they would be willing to pay for a Ford Pet Travel System. I would also interview a small group of Ford SUV owners who regularly travel with their dogs to gain more detailed feedback. Using both primary and secondary research would help Ford decide if the Ford Pet Travel System should be introduced in the United States.
